Free App Store keyword field checker

Paste your app name, subtitle and keyword field to count them against Apple’s limits of 30, 30 and 100 characters. The checker flags repeated words, plurals, spaces after commas and filler words, following Apple’s own keyword guidance, and gives you a cleaned keyword field to copy. It runs in your browser and stores nothing.

Every check follows Apple’s published guidance. Plural checks cover English only.

How to use it

How to check your App Store keyword field

Three steps. Everything updates as you type.

  1. 01

    Paste your name and subtitle

Copy them from App Store Connect or from your App Store page. Add your primary and secondary category if you want those words checked too.

  2. 02

    Paste your keyword field

It is private, so copy it from the Keywords box on your app’s version page in App Store Connect. Each localization has its own field, so check them one at a time.

  3. 03

    Fix the flags and copy

Each flag names the words and the Apple rule behind it. Copy the cleaned field, then fill the characters it frees with new keywords.

Apple’s rules

What Apple says about the keyword field

Every check in this tool comes from Apple’s own guidance on App Store search. These are the rules, with what each one costs you if you break it.

  • Commas, no spaces

Apple asks for terms separated by commas and no spaces, such as “Property,House,Real Estate”. Spaces inside a phrase are fine. A space after a comma uses a character and adds nothing.

  • No words from your name, subtitle or category

Apple matches searches against your app name, subtitle, keywords and primary category, and indexes your secondary category too. A word already in one of them is wasted in the keyword field.

  • No plurals of words you use

Apple treats plurals such as “climbs” and “climb” as duplicates, so keep one form. The checker flags English -s, -es and -ies forms and leaves other languages alone.

  • No filler or generic words

Apple names filler words like “the” and “to” and generic terms like “app” or “game” as words that add no value. The checker uses the same stop word list as AsoBeast.

  • Keywords of 3 characters or more

App Store Connect asks for keywords longer than two characters, within 100 characters in total. It counts characters, so a letter such as ą or a Japanese character counts once.

  • No special characters

Apple advises against characters such as # or @ unless they are part of your brand. Hyphens and symbols are flagged so you can decide.

  • No competitor or trademarked names

Apple says improper keywords are a common reason for rejection and names competing apps and unauthorized trademarks among them. The checker cannot know these names, so check them yourself.

  • One field per localization

Each localization has its own keyword field. Apple says localized keywords are searchable in every country where the App Store supports that language.

Character limits

App Store character limits for every text field

Only some fields count toward search. Promotional text never does, and Apple does not list the description among the fields it matches searches against.

Questions

App Store keyword field questions

How many characters is the App Store keyword field?

100 characters, commas included. App Store Connect counts characters, so a letter such as ą and a Chinese, Japanese or Korean character each count once. Your app name and subtitle have 30 and 30 characters.

Should I put spaces after commas in the keyword field?

No. Apple asks for keywords separated by commas with no spaces, and each space counts toward the limit, so “habit, tracker” wastes one character. Spaces inside a phrase, such as “real estate”, are fine.

What keywords should go in my App Store subtitle?

Your most important keywords that are not already in your app name. The subtitle has 30 characters, shows under your name in search results and is one of the fields Apple matches searches against, so write it as a readable phrase and leave its words out of the keyword field.

Should I repeat my app name in the keyword field?

No. Apple says your app is already searchable by its name and your company name, and advises against repeating any word from your app name, subtitle or category in the keyword field.

Do I need both the singular and plural of a keyword?

No. Apple treats plurals such as “climbs” and “climb” as duplicates, so one form is enough. The checker flags English plurals ending in -s, -es and -ies. Other languages form plurals differently, so it does not flag them.

Can I put competitor names in my keywords?

No. Apple lists competing app names and unauthorized trademarked terms among the keywords not to use, and says improper keywords are a common reason for App Store rejections.

Can people see my keyword field?

No. It is private and never appears on your App Store page. You set one for each localization in App Store Connect, and Apple says localized keywords are searchable in every country where the App Store supports that language.

Do you store what I type?

No. The checks run in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere, AsoBeast’s servers included. Close the tab and it is gone.
